EXPECTATIONS:
Many applicants have inaccurate expectations of Christmas tree farm work. They think it must be pretty easy or very hard, It is farm work which can be very satisfying. For the most part, you will see actual progress at the end of each day. There is no need to be a 200 pound weight lifter. The weights lifted are not that great. But stamina and a willingness to learn are essential. We need workers who can be depended upon to show up for work on time and work when scheduled. There are black flies in the Spring. The sun is hot, and the mosquitoes and deer flies will bite in the Summer. In the Fall and Winter it gets cold and the wind blows. Other than that, the tree farm can be a pretty nice place to work if you like working outdoors in Vermont. Not only do we also hire women as required by law, but we often find them to be very good at certain types of work such as shaping trees and customer relations along with many other tasks.
MINIMUM AGE:
We are frequently in need of motivated workers with a good work ethic. Because of our use of machinery we prefer workers 16 years of age or older because state regulations permit their using more types of equipment than those that are younger. However, we do hire some workers as young as 14 but they are more restricted by child labor laws in what they can do.
